Personal best performances for Canadian at JGP Mexico

« Go back to News

Among the growing family of SCOB competitors is a perky 17-year old from Ottowa, Canada who has come to Boston to train with Mark Mitchell and Peter Johansson. Dana Zhalko-Tytarenko, born in Kiev and 2007 Canadian National Junior Champion, may seem anonymous on the ice among the many hopeful and hardworking skaters. But in the recent Junior Grand Prix event in Mexico City, she gave two personal best performances to distinguish herself in a talented field.

For her short program, set to Liszt's passionate Liebestraum, Zhalko-Tytarenko featured her triple toe-triple toe combination. She received all level 3s for her spins and her spiral step sequences to attain a total score of 41.43, placing her in 5th place for the first segment.

In her freeskate, set to the Spy Kids soundtrack, she was credited with two clean triple jumps and strong values on all spins and step sequences. Despite two falls, her high component scores kept her competitive. A total of 60.94 was ninth in the freeskate, but her combined score of 102.37 overall was enough to secure 6th place for the event.
