ACT I of Boston and Imagica each take home the silver medal at the 2012 National Theatre on Ice Competition. This year’s event took place June 21-24 in Strongsville, Ohio, where over 720 skaters, and the top Theatre on Ice teams in the country, came together to compete for National titles in the senior, junior, novice, preliminary, open and adult divisions.

It was after having a great time performing in this year’s 100th Anniversary Tribute number “Mame” in Ice Chips of 2012 – 100 Years of Excellence, that Team Excel Collegiate sparked the idea to start back up our ACT I of Boston senior theatre team, and asked Ice Chips Show Director, Timothy LeBlanc, to come onboard and coach them to Nationals. With just two months of rehearsal time, Timothy LeBlanc, with the assistance of Jason Wong and Samantha Cepican, created the new ACT I of Boston, by bringing together a group of current and former competitive singles, pairs, and ice dance skaters in addition to enthusiastic members from Team Excel Collegiate. Together they formed a multi-talented team that would go on to capture the silver medal at the 2012 National Theatre on Ice competition, just behind the victorious Los Angeles Ice Theatre team. The recharged ACT I of Boston team performed two beautiful numbers, a Choreographic Exercise that represented the required theme of ‘conflict,’ and a vibrant, theatrical rendition of Cirque Du Soleil’s ‘La Nouba’ for the Free Skate, winning an award for “best adaption of a known work.”

Imagica, which is lead by Tasney Mazzarino and assisted by Amy Vecchio, has won the National gold medal for the past four consecutive years, and though they faced some tough competition this year, they still stood strong with two awesome routines finishing in second place, and winning an award for “best makeup.”  Encore captured fifth place, and won an award for “best original story,” and this was Center Stage’s first Nationals, and they won the pewter medal.

Both ACT I of Boston and Imagica, have since been selected by U.S. Figure Skating to represent the United States at the 2013 Nations Cup International Theatre on Ice competition, in Spain next May. Expect a more in-depth look into the 2012 National Theatre on Ice competition, and the production stages and development of ACT I of Boston, in the upcoming CHIPS Newsletter.
