Ariel Fay Gagnon

Personal Profile:
Growing up, I ventured in a lot of sports: competitive soccer, tae kwon do, ballet and cheerleading, all while skating two disciplines (Pairs and Freestyle). I know the mental and physical demands that sports require and I can also relate to it. Looking back on my career, as great as I believe it to be, I look back knowing that there were many flaws in the choices that were made for me as well as things that could have been done to better prepare me as a competitor. This reflection has ignited a fire in me to further my education to be the best coach that I could be. My degree in Kinesiology (the study of movement) has allowed me to better understand the physics and biomechanics behind the sport, as well as the physiological and anatomical demand needed to thrive. Athletes need to be as much on-ice as they do off-ice. To ensure that my students stay strong and healthy and capable to perform at their best, I believe that implementing strength and conditioning training will not only help with injury prevention but also with joint/bone/cognitive health, quality of life and a longer skating career.
Formal Education:
B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Quebec in Montreal
Coaching Philosophy:
I have always loved figure skating. It helped shape me into the person that I am today. My goal as a coach is and has always been to not only help all of my students become the best skaters that they can possibly be, but to also help them become the best versions of themselves along the way.
