Coaching Philosophy:
The privilege of working daily for hours with eight legendary coaches was rare when I had it as a young skater and unobtainable now. Many of their insights we now risk losing, with resulting needless, often career-ending injuries. Having for decades deferred teaching skating, lest I lose my own, I now find it a way to share their legacy, to enrich students’ skating skills and my own as well, a continually renewing two-way exchange between teacher/student and student/teacher.

The more coaches teach, the less they skate, it seems, until they lose their skating, a tragedy, I vowed to avoid. Instead of teaching, I explored skating through the doing of it, drawing it, choreographing it, filming it, and writing about it. Resulting essays have been published in skating magazines, films and videos presented on PBS, the American Film Institute, the Kennedy Center, the Hirshhorn Museum, and other museums in the U.S. and abroad.
