This is your very short Captain’s log for April 23, 2021. I am reporting from the remote bridge of the Club, and where that thing we call Spring is appearing to be super reluctant to show up.
We had one reported case of COVID-19 at the Club this past week, and the individual followed all established communication and quarantine protocols. There has been no evidence of any transmissions of the virus at the Club. With school vacation this week and lots of folks traveling, please remember if you have been on a plane within the last seven days prior to coming back to the Club, you must provide negative PCR test results before returning to the Club. Anyone who is fully vaccinated, and has supplied Cheri with their vaccination card, is exempt from this requirement.
As always, please contact Cheri Rigby directly if you have any questions regarding COVID-19 or in understanding the Club’s safety protocols. She can be reached at email@example.com.
Graduating Seniors Exhibition
On April 30, 2021, the JAC is hosting the Friday night exhibition to honor our graduating seniors. Since we were unable to hold Ice Chips, the Club wanted to do something to recognize the seniors and the JAC took up the challenge. U.S. Figure Skating recognizes the student-athletes who have worked hard to pursue figure skating while maintaining their academics. While figure skating is not a traditional school sport, it requires the same dedication, perseverance and time management as any varsity sport. There are four categories of recognition based on competition and test achievements in all disciplines of figure skating. Student-athletes are rewarded based on their highest level of achievement at either the Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze level. We have a total of 20 graduating seniors this year – one of our largest groups to date – and, of those 20, we have 7 of them receiving a Platinum recognition and 4 receiving a Gold recognition. The skaters will be performing individual numbers as well as a group number during the exhibition for friends, family, and Club members. Please join us as we celebrate this remarkable group of individuals next Friday.
U.S. Figure Skating Governing Council
Once again, Governing Council will be held virtually due to the continued impact of the pandemic starting April 30th and concluding on May 1st. Selected Club members will be attending as delegates, as well as observers over the course of the two-day event. There is a lot on the agenda for this meeting with updates to the U.S. Figure Skating bylaws, as well as voting for the new officers and committee members.
We have one of the largest subscribed Club Competitions coming up next Sunday, May 2, 2021. Safety protocols will be in place as always. Our Events team along with the JAC have organized a fun event for Club members which will be topped off as always by the hotly contested Team Event! It is our first Club Competition in the new facility and will most definitely be a wonderful way to introduce new members to one of the very important Club traditions. In fact, the Club Competition is how five of the Club Awards are determined. I hope family and friends will come to cheer on the skaters as this will be their first opportunity to perform and compete for quite some time.
Awards Ceremony Reminder
As I mentioned last week, the annual Club Awards Ceremony is fast approaching and will be on May 7, 2021. Registration is now open and can be accessed here. We look forward to celebrating the skaters’ efforts this past season as they trained under the constraints of the pandemic. There is much to celebrate and we hope you join us to do so.
Thank you, everyone!
