Participation & Costume Fees

All registrants (whether participating in a Group Production Number, the Bostonians, the Adult Number, or the Ice Chips Opening Number), will incur an initial NON-REFUNDABLE show registration fee of $250 for one (1) production number, $325 for two (2) production numbers, $375 for three (3) production numbers and $60 for any additional costumes after that. This initial fee includes the cost of one costume, one digital downloadable video of the show, one group production photo for each number, one individual cast photo and one Ice Chips program book. Fees will be billed to members' Club accounts in January 2023. There will be NO refunds after the application deadline.

Group Production Numbers

• All skaters are invited to be in a group production number based on their freestyle level for the previous 2022 season, and the Ice Chips Committee will place you in the appropriate group number in accordance with the following rules. Please note that all USFS test levels and competition entries will be checked to ensure that skaters have listed their categories correctly.
• Skaters who COMPETED Juvenile through Senior will skate in the group production number at the level in which they competed at the 2022 National Qualifying Series (NQS) or the Excel Series for the 2022 season.
• Juvenile through Senior level freestyle skaters who did NOT COMPETE at the NQS or Excel Series will skate at their USFS test level as of October 31, 2022.
• Skaters at the No Test through Pre-Juvenile levels will skate at their USFS test level as of October 31, 2022.
• Dance and Pairs skaters who do NOT have a freestyle level will skate in a group production number based on an individual basis according to their level of expertise at the discretion of the Head Choreographer.
• Pre-requisite for skating in the Opening Number: Skaters who participate in either the juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior or senior group production number must also participate in the Opening Number. Skaters may not choose to do one or the other.
• Pre-requisite for skating in the NQS or Excel Series Competitors Number: Skater must skate in a Group Production Number based on their test level; juvenile and above levels only.

Line Captains assist the choreographers at rehearsals. They will learn the choreography in advance of the cast and assist with teaching the choreography, reinforcing choreography, playing music, taking attendance and answering questions.

Pre-rehearsal practices for Line Captains to learn the production numbers may be required. More details will be made available in December.

Line Captains MUST BE AT LEAST 13 YEARS OLD AND JUVENILE TO SENIOR LEVEL, hardworking, responsible, motivated, reliable and dedicated individuals seeking further opportunities in the professional ice show industry.

Line Captains will be chosen by the show's Creative Team and will be notified separately. Every effort will be made to accommodate requested rehearsal days however it may not be possible in all cases.

Ice Chips Participation Rules & Guidelines

The Skating Club of Boston was one of the first clubs to produce an ice show or “carnival” starting in 1912, which continues as the longest-running ice show in the world. All Club members are invited to be involved in the show either as a skater or volunteer. The goal of the production is to provide the membership with an opportunity to demonstrate their talents and creativity in a show environment and club experience that brings together Club members, whether they are old or young, competitive or recreational skaters.

Ice Chips Soloist Qualifications

To be eligible for consideration for a solo, skaters must be members in good standing of The Skating Club of Boston and must represent the Club when competing at U.S. Figure Skating qualifying competitions. Club participants qualify for solos based on their placements in qualifying U.S. Figure Skating and International competitions held in the current competitive season.

1. The following participants qualify for “Featured Solos” of unlimited duration:

• Invited guest performers

• U.S. Figure Skating Championships medalists and those who place in the top 15 in certain ISU-sponsored Events (World Championships, Four Continents Championships, World Junior Championships, and Senior and Junior Grand Prix events).

• U.S. Figure Skating Championships competitors
• Sectional competitors whose score qualifies them to compete at U.S. Championships

• U.S. Adult Figure Skating Championships medalists at qualifying events.
• U.S. Collegiate Figure Skating Championships Senior medalists
• Juvenile, Intermediate and Novice U.S. Pairs Final medalists
• Juvenile, Intermediate and Novice U.S. Ice Dance Final medalists

• Regional singles medalists
• Sectional singles medalists

The Skating Club of Boston's productions are heavily reliant on volunteer involvement. The Club takes pride in its productions, which are the result of teamwork and involvement of members covering a broad range of interests and talents. Please give serious consideration to joining the team and helping with this year's Ice Chips production. If at least one individual from each family were to volunteer some time it will make light work for all. In the not-too-distant future, a request will go out to the membership for Ice Chips 2023 volunteers.

Participation in The Skating Club of Boston's shows is a privilege granted according to membership category. The undersigned show participant or guardian of participant agrees that he/she shall conduct him/herself in a respectful and responsible manner with the Producer, Director, Choreographers, Club Management, volunteers and all other cast members, and promises to be an upstanding representative of The Skating Club of Boston during the entire event process.

Participant acknowledges that he/she is required to attend all rehearsals. In the event of an emergency, please notify ice.chips@scboston.org to report your absence. Attendance at Ice Chips Rehearsals is absolutely mandatory, including:

1. Photo Day (2/12)
2. Full Run-Through (3/26)
3. Full Dress Rehearsal (4/2)
4. Full Technical Rehearsal (4/6)
5. All show performances are absolutely mandatory

Participants must be fully compliant with costumes, tights, makeup and hair requirements at all Dress Rehearsals, Technical Rehearsals and Show Performances.

Show participants not in compliance with the above may be denied the opportunity to participate.

Release is required for all participants in The Skating Club of Boston's shows.

I hereby give permission for this information and relevant media to be used by The Skating Club of Boston for the express purpose of publicizing The Skating Club of Boston and its productions.

Additionally, reporting of local newspaper and school information is optional but encouraged.

The Club's Marketing and Communications team will prepare press releases and photos for local media outlets to promote the show.

In consideration of being allowed to participate in any skating or related activities at The Skating Club of Boston or elsewhere sponsored by The Skating Club of Boston, the undersigned acknowledges, appreciates, and agrees that:

1. The risk of injury from the activities involved in this program is significant, including the potential for permanent paralysis and death, and while particular rules, equipment, and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious injury does exist; and,
2. I knowingly and freely assume all such risks, both known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of the releasees or others, and assume full responsibility for my participation; and,
3. I willingly agree to comply with the stated and customary terms and conditions for participation. If however, I observe any unusual significant hazard during my presence or participation, I will remove myself from participation and bring such to the attention of the nearest official immediately; and,
4. I, for myself and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, hereby release and hold harmless The Skating Club of Boston, its officers, officials, agents and/or employees, other participants, sponsors, advertisers, and, if applicable, owners or property, whether arising from the negligence of the releasees or otherwise.

I have read this release of liability and assumption of risk agreement, fully understand its terms, understand that I have given up substantial rights by signing it, and sign it freely and voluntarily without any inducement. I also acknowledge this contract is binding for the entirety of the season and there will be no refunds or reductions in cost for skaters who retire, relocate or suffer injury preventing them from using any contracted ice sessions. The signatory of this application agrees to pay all contracted ice costs for the entire season and is responsible for any costs incurred by the Club in collecting any delinquent amounts, as well the payment of late fees and interest charges.

OR, For Participants of Minority Age (under the age of 18 at the time of registration)This certifies that I, as parent/guardian with legal responsibility for this participant, do consent and agree to his/her release as provided above of the Releasees, and, for myself, with my heirs, assigns, and next of kin, I release and agree to indemnify the Releasees from any and all liabilities incident to my minor child’s involvement or participation in these programs as provided above, even if arising from their negligence. I also acknowledge this contract is binding for the entirety of the season and there will be no refunds or reductions in cost for skaters who retire, relocate or suffer injury preventing them from using any contracted ice sessions. The signatory of this application agrees to pay all contracted ice costs for the entire season and is responsible for any costs incurred by the Club in collecting any delinquent amounts, as well the payment of late fees and interest charges.
