Medical Credit Policy

To better serve its membership, The Skating Club of Boston is instituting a one-year trial program offering Club members the opportunity to receive a partial ice credit for contracted ice when use of the ice has become impossible due to an unexpected physical injury to the skater. The trial period will end on June 24, 2017. The Club will evaluate the policy over the course of the year, while also exploring other options for mitigating member risk when contracting for Club ice. Members will be updated on the status of this investigation and the plan for next fiscal year in the late Spring.

The terms of the credit policy are as follows:

  • The maximum credit allowed per injury request is 75% of the contracted value, up to a maximum amount of $3,000 per application.
  • There is a total lifetime credit of no more than $5,000 per skater.
  • Credits will be applied to future ice purchases only. Credits will not be applied to membership dues, assessments, dinners, tickets or any other non-ice charges.
  • Members are required to keep all non-ice billing items in their Club account current to remain eligible for the ice credit.
  • Member contracts may be for the Fall/Winter/Spring or Summer.
  • This policy applies to on-ice contracts only.
  • This policy applies to members who contract directly with the Club.
  • For all injuries occurring after October 14, 2016, there is a 30-day requirement to report the injury in writing, or on the Club provided web form, to the Club office, and a 90-day limit to apply for an ice credit.
  • For past injuries occurring between September 1, 2015 and October 14, 2016, no advance injury reporting is required.
  • Applications for credits based on injuries occurring before September 1, 2015 will not be accepted.
  • There is a 30-calendar day minimum of time off the ice to be eligible for a credit.
  • If the skater is on any ice during the 30-day period that follows the date of injury, the one month minimum period for time off the ice will begin with the last day the skater has skated.
  • Partial credits will be allowed if doctor’s recommendation allows for partial return to the ice.
  • A written medical doctor’s report [MD] must be submitted by email directly to Dr. Ellen Geminiani of the Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. This report must include specifics of the injury and expected length of time off the ice. Dr. Geminiani will provide a written response to you which must be submitted to the Club along with your Medical Credit Application.

  • Credits are for ice purchases only and at no time will they be redeemed for cash.
  • This program is for Club members only. Member must have been a contracting Club member at the time of the injury.
