Open Positions

Job Title: Manager, Events and Programs

Reports to: Director, Events and Programs

Summary:

The Skating Club of Boston is a founding member of U.S. Figure Skating and a primary center for figure skating events, high performance training and recreational skating in the United States. The Manager will report to the Director of Events and Programs and will work closely with the Event Coordinator and various Club departments. A successful candidate will be able to handle multiple tasks at one time and be efficient in time management. Remote work is not an option given the on-site requirements of the position.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Director of Events and Programs, including direct responsibility for specific operational areas
  • Draft competition announcement and build initial competition set-up on U.S. Figure Skating’s Event Management System (EMS)
  • Create “Know Before You Go” documents for officials, skaters and coaches
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications team on efforts related to social media, event marketing/media needs, signage and web updates
  • Oversee volunteer schedule to ensure positions are filled based on event needs
  • Organize medical team schedule, for each competition and ice show, with Boston Children’s Hospital/The Micheli Center
  • Volunteer schedule review and on-site management of volunteers for all events
  • Approve competition expenses including officials’ travel and gifts
  • Oversee travel, accommodation and hospitality logistics for competition officials
  • Review and audit competition officials’ expense reports before submitting to Director
  • Track and reconcile competition expenses to ensure alignment with the approved budget supporting the Director
  • Support efforts to bring new events and programming to the Club
  • Partner with the Event Director and Club office to oversee ice and off-ice space scheduling for Club programs (Tomorrow’s Champions, The Studio, Hockey, Academic Center)
  • Support the Director with communication channels (parents, social media, Club) for Tomorrow’sChampions program

Requirements:

  • Estimated 40 hours per week
  • Additional hours required during events, including nights and weekends
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • High-level proficiency with Word, Excel and Google Suite

Qualifications:

  • Experience in event management and planning, operations, sports or club management, hospitality or related fields
  • Understanding of figure-skating events, procedures and leadership a plus
  • Clear communicator and relationship builder
  • Demonstrate initiative, advance planning skills and creative problem solving
  • Ability to consistently manage several on-going projects of varying demands
  • Professional, adaptable and approachable, with strong professional boundaries

Job Title: Operations Staff

Reports To: Operations Manager

Summary: The Skating Club of Boston is a founding member of U.S. Figure Skating and a primary center for high-performance training and recreational skating in the United States. This position will report directly to the Club’s Operations Manager, and work in coordination with other staff members on a day-to-day basis.

Shifts are nights and weekends with a chance to work on a scheduled or as needed/on-call basis. Experience is a plus, but we will train the right person. Room for advancement for employees who demonstrate commitment, motivation, reliability and pride in their work.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure proper building and management standards are maintained at all times
  • Opening and closing building, following all security procedures
  • Ice resurfacing and other regular ice maintenance
  • Perform general equipment maintenance and repair, including maintenance of equipment logs
  • Building cleaning, including restrooms, trash removal, etc.
  • Meeting room and special event set-up and break down

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21+ years of age
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and means of transportation
  • All employees subject to a criminal background check
  • Must be reliable

Job Commitment:

  • Full-Time, Part-Time
  • Schedule: Day Shift, Night Shift, Weekend Availability
