The Marilyn P. Kasputys Branch of The Micheli Center and the Club’s Junior Activities Committee are teaming up once again to host a series of informational sessions this summer! Competition Readiness will prepare your mind and body for the upcoming competition season with expert advice from The Micheli Center’s top, nutrition and mental performance professionals. This series will focus on nutritional needs, off-ice periodization for peak performance, and the mental skills you need to get in the zone!

August 3rd: Performance Planning for Your Nutrition Needs

  • An informational Zoom presentation with Laura Moretti and Nicole Farnsworth. A Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants.

August 4th: Let’s Make It!

  • An in-person activity at The Skating Club of Boston. Make delicious and nutritious smoothies and snacks plus get recipe cards for healthy meals with Caroline Depietri.

August 24th: Periodization: Timing Your Training for Peak Performance

  • An in-person activity in The Studio at The Skating Club of Boston. Join Ariel Fay Carr in The Studio to learn the importance of timing in your training.

September 27th: Creating Your Mental Zone for Optimal Performance

  • An informational in-person presentation with Lauren McHenry and Kelsey Griffith.

 

 


About the Panelists

Laura Moretti

Laura Moretti completed her Master’s Degree in Clinical Nutrition and Didactic Program in Clinical Dietetics at New York University’s Steinhardt School. She completed her dietetic internship at New York Presbyterian including intensive training at the Weill Cornell Medical Center inpatient eating disorder treatment program. Laura moved to Boston to take on her current role as Dietitian in the Division of Sports Medicine and the Female Athlete Program at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is an active member of the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitian Association, The International Academy of Eating Disorders, Sports/Cardiovascular/Wellness Dietetic Practice Group of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the American College of Sports Medicine. Laura is also an avid skier, competitive triathlete, and a Boston Marathon Qualifier and Finisher.

 

Ariel Fay Carr, BS, FMS, FRCMS, CFSC 2
Strength and Conditioning Specialist

Ariel Fay Carr (formerly Gagnon) received her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM). As a young athlete, Ariel trained in Canada as a competitive figure skater. She competed at a national and international level in Pairs, all while still attending high school. She has earned herself countless medals and multiple awards throughout the years, including several sectional medals and awards for the single and pair skater of the year for her region.

Ariel has also ventured out in different sports, including tae kwon do, soccer, cheerleading, and bodybuilding. She is currently a certified Learn to Skate and US Figure Skating coach and has been working with figure skaters for the past 9 years. She is also a certified strength and conditioning coach (CFSC) in level 1 and 2, a functional range conditioning movement specialist and certified in FMS. Ariel has experience working with a variety of ages and levels of skaters and non-skaters.

 

Kelsey Griffith, MS
Performance Enhancement and Rehab Specialist

Kelsey received her Bachelor of Arts in dance from Muhlenberg College in 2011. After two years in New York City, she decided to pursue her master’s degree in sport and exercise psychology from Springfield College. While at Springfield, Kelsey worked with athletes, teams, and coaches at the NCAA Division III collegiate level. She has also worked with the Massachusetts Olympic Development elite soccer program and Broadway performers. Additionally, she completed a thesis examining the effects of training on the mood states of professional ballet dancers. In her free time, Kelsey is a Zumba enthusiast and tries to stay as active in the dance world as possible. Kelsey believes that mental toughness is a crucial component in achieving elite-level sport performance. Through mental skills training, athletes learn to navigate the maze of mental challenges associated with sport to better reach self-determined goals and perform optimally both on and off the field.

 

Nicole Farnsworth, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN, CPT
Clinical Nutrition Specialist, Sports Medicine Division

Nicole Farnsworth received her Bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, where she competed for the track and field team in the heptathlon and pentathlon. Nicole received her Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition at Columbia University’s Institute of Human Nutrition and completed a dietetic internship at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. Upon completion of her internship, Nicole began working at Van Dusen Nutrition, a Needham-based group nutrition practice, where she assisted in developing a movement-based curriculum to help clients redefine their relationship with exercise.

Nicole is a board-certified sports dietitian and a Clinical Nutrition Specialist with the Female Athlete Program and Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital. She is the consulting sports dietitian for Wheaton College. Nicole is additionally a NASM-certified personal trainer.

 

Caroline Depietri
During her time as a competitive figure skater, Caroline developed a strong passion for nutrition, health, and fitness. She is a student at Boston University majoring in nutrition with a sub concentration in exercising populations and a minor in psychology. She is a U.S. Figure Skating Double Gold Medalist in Free Skating and Moves in the Field, an 8-time New England Regional competitor, and a 2019 Eastern U.S. Sectional competitor. She is a member of the BU Figure Skating Club’s competitive team. Caroline is also certified in coaching Pilates and currently teaches in The Studio on Thursdays. On top of training and coaching, Caroline works on her food blog Caroline Beth Health on Instagram. She has worked with many food companies and is currently an ambassador for One Mighty Mill and Banza. One of her recipes will also be featured in Food Network Magazine this coming October. Caroline’s hope in the future is to guide and work with athletes of all ages who are looking to perform at their peak while maintaining a healthy relationship with food.
