Madeline Wunder

Personal Profile:
My love for skating began when I watched people brave the Cape Cod winter to skate on the pond behind my childhood home. I begged my mother to learn how to skate in the hopes that she and I could skate on the pond together. That year my mother began her first of many drives to the local rink.

From the age of six, I fell in love with skating. Over my fourteen-year career, my love, passion, and respect for the sport has grown exponentially. At the end of my competitive career, I discovered a new passion for teaching and giving back to the sport. It started with learn to skate, then private lessons between graduate school classes, and then became my happy place after work.

I attended Simmons College where I received my Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science in 2014 Magna Cum Laude and then went on to earn a doctorate degree in Physical Therapy in 2016. I currently work as an orthopedic and sports medicine Physical Therapist on the South Shore. I believe my background as a competitive skater and now coach has improved my ability to effectively communicate and teach both my patients in the clinic and students on the ice.

I was a member of the Medical Team at the 2014 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, 2016 ISU World Figure Skating Championships, and 2020 U.S. Eastern Singles Final and US Dance Final.

My competitive accomplishments include 8-time Regional Competitor, Regional Medalist, Eastern Sectional Competitor, 3-time International Competitor, International Medalist, 2011 US Collegiate Championships competitor, and I am a double gold medalist in both moves in the field and freestyle. After completing my singles career, I broadened my horizon within the sport by both coaching and skating on an Adult Theatre on Ice Team. This team won the bronze and silver medals respectively at the 2015 and 2016 National Theatre on Ice competition. These accomplishments led to the team being chosen by US Figure Skating to be a part of the world team and represent the United States at the 2017 Nations Cup Competition in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Outside of skating, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, and I love country music. A fun fact about me is that in sixth grade I won the Massachusetts state bronze medal in Small mouth bass fishing, I haven’t fished since!
