Philip Deyesso

Personal Profile:
My introduction to our beautiful sport was watching Paul Wylie skate his way to Olympic glory, in 1992. The event that finally brought my 11 year old self to the ice was following the infamous Nancy/Tonya saga, in 1994. I would study my home VHS recordings of their performances intensely, and re-enact them in my basement on my roller-skates. Bless my family for the many evenings I made them judge my homemade routines. Later that fall, my school took a trip to the local ice rink, where I was following around one of the chaperones, who was recalling some basic skills. Thankfully, she placed a call to my parents to encourage them to enroll me in the local Learn to Skate program that winter.

I started competing that following year and four years later, competed at the U.S. Junior Nationals. I am a USFS Double gold medalist in Freestyle and Moves in the Field, Eastern Sectional qualifier in Mens Novice and Junior level, and a proud competitor for The Skating Club of Boston. Much gratitude to my great coaches at The Skating Club of Boston, Lisa Coppola and Tom Lescinski, for their dedication to provide me the foundation and support I needed.

I got my start in coaching in 2001, through several different Learn to Skate programs in the south shore and greater Boston area. Simultaneously while pursuing my dream in skating, I was also chasing my love for music, since age 6. I was a classically trained pianist and 5-time M.A.C.S. state champion. Following my final competitive skating season in 2003, I was called to New York City to follow my concurrent love for the stage of Music Theatre.

I proceeded to sing and perform nationally and internationally for numerous stage productions for Disney CruiseLine, Universal Studios Singapore, Theatreworks USA, and OFF-BROADWAY New York. One of the most epic theatre highlights was performing opposite Olympic champion Oksana Baiul, in “Cold As Ice” a skating musical. Actors Equity Union member for 11 years.

I relocated back to the New England area in 2017 to devote my energy full time to coaching in various rinks in Massachusetts. I welcome all skill level, varied from Tots to Adults, Test track to Senior level competitive skaters. I feel blessed to enjoy the opportunity of utilizing my loves for music, theatre, and skating. I look forward to sharing my unique expertise and specialty in program music editing, choreography, and performer branding. You may also hear me announcing your next USFS sanctioned events. “Please welcome to the ice…”!

Coaching Philosophy:
I have 15 years of experience working with Basic classes through Regional level competitors. I pride myself on bringing my best mind, body, spirit to my work. I take very seriously the responsibility of sharing the joy and freedom one can experience in our sport.
No matter the age, color, size, or sex; I want everyone to receive the same opportunity to enjoy the world on ice.
Under my training and service, I hope to provide not only an abundant knowledge of skating, but also skills that will enrich, inspire, and improve oneself, and the world around them.
Communication, honesty, and commitment are vital for our coach/student/parent partnership to be the most effective and impactful.
I am available and currently enrolling students for Class, Private, and Off-ice work. I look forward to create wonderful memories with you!
