U.S. Figure Skating announced that it will host the 2021 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic from Sept. 15-19, 2021 and the 2022 U.S. Synchronized Skating International Classic from Jan. 28-29, 2022 at the Skating Club of Boston’s facility in Norwood, Massachusetts. The synchronized skating competition will be one of five international competitions included in the ISU Challenger Series for Synchronized Skating.
The Challenger Series for Synchronized Skating, which began in 2019, gives teams the opportunity to compete at the international level and earn world standing points. The United States hosted the California Cup in Irvine, California during the inaugural year of the Series. The international competition will be held in conjunction with the 2022 Eastern Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships.
The U.S. International Figure Skating Classic, which will include ladies, men’s and ice dance events in 2021, was first held in 2012 in Salt Lake City, and has been held each year since, with the exception of 2020. Like in previous years, the U.S. International Classic will be held alongside the U.S. Challenge Skate, which is a developmental competition for domestic novice and junior competitors.
U.S. Figure Skating will also host Skate America, which will serve as the first stop on the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series, on Oct. 22-24, 2021. The location for that competition, as well as the full ISU international calendar will be available later this spring.
