Thriving Through Being with Dr. Lauren McHenry

Whether you are an aspiring Olympian, or a skater aspiring to skate their personal best, mental skills training is an important skill set you can bring to the ice to be the best you can be. That’s why Dr. Lauren McHenry, a former skater and sport psychology consultant, has developed the Thriving Through Being program.

Thriving Through Being offers an evidence-based framework for actionable tools to cultivate thriving (sport success + mental well-being) within coaches, skating parents, and athlete(s). The Skating Club of Boston club coaches will all be completing the Thriving Coaches course in 2023. We encourage all skating parents to take advantage of the Thriving Parents course, no matter what level of involvement your athlete has. The Thriving Athletes course is designed for athletes ages 12-years-old or older and/or at the Juvenile-Senior levels.

While Thriving Coaches focuses on ways that coaches enhance the coach-athlete relationship, support athletes’ development of a healthy relationship with themselves, and support athletes’ mindset, Thriving Parents focuses on how parents can best support their developing athlete(s) as they navigate the stressors of their sport. And, Thriving Athletes is all about teaching athletes to develop self-respect and take responsibility within their sport participation in order to build confidence, healthy/helpful perspective, and manage daily stressors effectively (including competition stressors!).
